Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium

Federal Hill Park

History buffs looking to spend quality time in downtown Baltimore, have a must-see destination to add to their list. Historic Federal Hill Park is the place. This beautiful park has roots dating back to the War of 1812, when it was a lookout point.

Fort McHenry National Monument encompasses over 43 acres of land on the Locust Point peninsula, near the opening of Baltimore Harbor.

The star-shaped brick fort, built between 1799 and 1802, housed the United States Army's enlisted men, quarters for the Commanding Officer, quarters for the Junior Officers, a guardhouse and the Powder Magazine. Fort McHenry was named after James McHenry, the second Secretary of War.

Francis Scott Key was inspired to write a poem entitled "The Star-Spangled Banner," when he saw an American flag flying after the British attack on Maryland during the War of 1812. This later because the national anthem of the United States.

Johns Hopkins University

Split into 10 units across campuses in Maryland and DC, Johns Hopkins is named after a philanthropist by the same name. His seven million dollar donation in 1876 helped fund the creation of Johns Hopkins Hospital near Baltimore.

JHU is famous world wide, with notable alumni like former US President Woodrow Wilson, and 1934 Nobel Prize in Medicine winner George Hoyt Whipple. Since 1972, students and locals have enjoyed the annual JHU Spring Fair. Catch a JHU Blue Jays game on your visit – Homewood Field houses the JHU lacrosse team, while the Newton White Athletic Center is home to Blue Jays basketball.

Loyola University Maryland

A Roman Catholic, Jesuit private school, Loyola University Maryland is located in Baltimore on a 99-acre campus in the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

Established in 1852, the institute consists of three schools: Loyola College of Arts & Sciences, the Loyola School of Education, and the Sellinger School of Business & Management. Loyola’s athletics department consists of 17 varsity teams known as the Loyola Greyhounds – and part of the Patriot League.

M&T Bank Stadium

Ready for some football in Baltimore? Head to M&T Bank Stadium, south of downtown Baltimore, to cheer on the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League.

This multi-purpose, stadium has been the home of the Ravens since it was completed in 1998. This impressive stadium has also hosts the Johns Hopkins University's men's lacrosse team games, an annual high school rival football game (one of the oldest in the country), plus concerts and lacrosse tournaments.

M&T Bank Stadium is considered to be the "crowning jewel" of the sports facilities in the National Football League. It features 71,008 seats, including 8,196 club seats and 128 suites, two high definition RavensVision video screens and Shaw Sportexe Momentum Turf. Maryland Science Center

Located in beautiful downtown Baltimore at the Inner Harbor, the Maryland Science Center is a thriving tourist destination in Maryland. Morgan State University

As you tour the MSU campus, don't skip a chance to see the Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. School of Engineering building. The Earl S. Richardson Library holds more than 660,000 volumes and historic artifacts. Sports fans can see the Morgan State Bears play across 13 different varsity sports.

Escape to a beautiful oasis during your next visit to Baltimore . Sherwood Gardens is the place to be. The history of the park dates back to the 1920s, when John W. Sherwood planted a garden of tulips from the Netherlands.

Today, this wonderful six-acre park is filled with approximately 80,000 tulips, beautiful evergreens, old English boxwoods, bright azaleas, and rare trees.

Spend the afternoon strolling the grounds to view the magnificent tulips, as well as, the flowering dogwood trees, wisteria, magnolias and flowering cherry trees. Spring time remains the best season to view the variety of flowering bulbs in Baltimore.

At the end of each season, bring your spade to help dig up the tulip bulbs. Visitors may purchase the bulbs for a nominal fee. The garden will once again be ready for the planting of the new tulip bulbs for the next season's flowering.

Stevenson University

Be sure to visit one of the premier private schools in Maryland on your next visit to the central region. Check out Stevenson University, just north of Baltimore. Founded in 1947, Stevenson also features a campus in Owings Mills. Before 2008, the school was named Villa Julie College

Stevenson University features a wide range of undergraduate and post-graduate degree programs. Enjoy a campus tour at Stevenson with your soon-to-be-graduated high school senior, or simply enjoy seeing the history and culture of the area. Former names include Maryland State Normal School, Maryland State Teachers College, and Towson State University. Towson University is known to have been Maryland's first training school for teachers.
