From: Baltimore Maryland. Take Interstate 70 West out of Baltimore. Take Exit 53B (Exit toward Route 15 North). Stay in right hand lane and exit at the Jefferson Street Exit, make a right at the light onto Prospect Boulevard by the Exxon Gas Station. The Best Western Historic is located one half mile on your right.

From: West Virginia, Via 340. Stay on Route 340 East, which will end over the bridge and turn onto Jefferson Street. After taking the Jefferson Street Exit, make a right at the light onto Prospect Boulevard by the Exxon Gas Station. The Best Western Historic Frederick is located one half mile on your right.

Established in 1946, the Frederick Municipal Airport (FDK) is set in northwestern Maryland – and serves the city of Frederick. Found just west of Baltimore along Interstate 70, FDK is a public airport owned by the City of Frederick.

Established in 1893, Hood College is situated on a 50-acre campus, and was originally the Woman's College of Frederick. Hood College featured an all-female student body until 1971. Monocacy National Battlefield

The battle that saved the Capital of Monocacy has made the grounds of Monocacy National Battlefield a sacred piece of national history. The Monocacy Battlefield is located in Frederick, Maryland within close proximity to Washington D.C.

For this reason the battle that occurred here effectively stopped the advance of the Confederate Army on the capital city in 1864. The Visitor Center’s staff are able to provide additional touring and Living History experiences as well upon request.

Auto tours are available as self-guided experiences that allow guests to view the battlefield from the comfort of their vehicle. For those who enjoy the experience of nature and want to stand in the grasses where the Confederate and Union armies once did, Monocacy offers a plethora of walking trails and opportunities to see wildlife.

Mount St. Mary's University

Travel to northwestern Maryland and find Emmitsburg – only 21 miles north of nearby Frederick – the home of Mount St. Mary's University. South Mountain Battlefield State Park

To commemorate the first Civil War battle to take place in the state of Maryland, the Battle of South Mountain, South Mountain Battlefield State Park was created. The Sate Park is located in the town of Middletown, outside of Frederick, Maryland.

South Mountain Battlefield is incorporated with Washington Monument State Park where visitors can begin their journey to view the battlefield. Unlike many other Civil War battlefields, South Mountain is still largely unprotected and visitors should take care when touring the battlefield.

South Mountain Battlefield State Park provides a unique opportunity to see the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, which intersects the battlefield. Trails are the preferred method of viewing the battlefield with maps available upon request.

South Mountain holds yearly events and re-enactments for visitors to experience what the battle might have been like in 1862.
